How I Practice My Religion & How Did I Get Here?
How I Practice My Religion
This work explores Ryuichi’s personal dance history through text and movement and deconstructs his physical and mental actions when dancing. Evolving from his love for dance, How I Practice My Religion is dedicated to his first three dance teachers: Margaret Lasica, Caroline English, and Anastasi Siotas.
How Did I Get Here?
How Did I Get Here? investigates how our perception of time changes as we age, and how we recognize and accept our own mortality as we enter the autumn phase of life. Ryuichi made this piece when he was approaching the age of 50 and it is a reflection of his own experience.
Sydney-based dance artist originally from Japan. Since the mid-1990s, he has studied contemporary dance technique as well as improvisation and choreography in Australia and overseas. Over the last fifteen years, Ryuichi has collaborated with both emerging and established international and Australian artists/companies including Xavier le Roy, La Fura dels Baus, Force Majeure, De Quincey Co., Opera Australia, and Kate Sherman.
